Sunday Snap Shot

This weekend, as promised, has been BUSY BUSY BUSY!!!

Gotta love these days though.

We did sneak in a little fun: Miniature Golfing.  Based off yesterdays showing, I am not going pro any time soon. Average +3 over 'par'.

But then I realize there are MANY little things I will probably never be good at.
-Basketball, Volleyball, Baseball (i.e. any hand eye coordination sport)
-Taking stickers off things
-Folding fitted sheets (yes, I have watched a youtube video to help, it didn't)
-Dicing onions, I can never get them small enough
-Remembering everything at the store
(Thank goodness there is a small market a block from us!)
-Any sort of video/arcade game
-Skateboarding

and the list

goes

on

Good news is none of these are essential life skills, so I guess I'll be okay!!!

Happy Mothers Day!

Mom I hope you liked your card, I found it 2 months ago while in Portland and knew you needed it

Friday Letters

Dear all you can eat Japanese Fondu,
You were fabulously tasty, and enjoyable.  I would recommend you to any of my friends. You were both healthier (but saltier), and cheaper than the Melting Pot, which came a a surprise since you were all you can eat.  I will come visit you again sometime!

Dear Mother's Day,
I understand that there should be a day dedicated to Mom's and their greatness.  But lets be honest isn't that every day?  While we're talking- Mom thank you for teaching me to be productive sun up to sun down.  Yesterday I went running, grocery shopping, and had extra time to hand wash my car before work.  This I attribute to you :) Also I am excited for our dinner tonight, it should be fun.  One last thing...Someday I hope I can make an apple pie as well as you.  In the mean time I'll keep practicing.  Mom this year's for you.

Dear Weekend,
You're going to be a busy one.  But I am ready for you, let's go.  Please just leave me enough time for laundry (sheets included)! Thanks.

Dear Essie Spring Collection,
You caught my eye on the way out of Target.  I think you will make my nails look fresh and springy,  maybe even make them a tad more dainty?  Maybe? When I paint this pink Cascade Cool I will let you know.

Dear Comcast,
Your customer service is terrible, and you can never get anything right.  If any other business took notes from you they would fail miserably.  I'm avoiding calling you today just because I don't want to ruin my happy Friday.

Dear Outside the Lines,
I hope you're a good book. I didn't even read the back summary at the store.  I liked your cover so much I went home and immediately downloaded you to my kindle.  This will be the true test, can I judge a book by it's cover?

Thursday IN or OUT

Un forecast-ed Traffic: OUT (duh)

Today I hit traffic during and unusual time and unusual place. JUST. THE. WORST.  Here's the deal, when I know there is traffic, I am mentally ready.  I have my list of people to catch up with (i.e. Grandmas, college Besties, and brother), my book on iPod, and a great CD.  When I am not ready I just get frustrated and cranky.  But don't we all.  This did NOT make for a good end of the day.  But what can you do?

Dove Chocolate Messages: IN

Dove always knows what to say.  Today this is what I got, and this is how I felt. I needed a moment. Thank you Dove for helping me get through my day, and granting me that moment.  The moment the simplicity of your dark chocolate square put a smile on my face.  Dove Chocolate Messages > Fortune Cookies Fortunes.  (P.S. This might be the most complicated math symbol I have used since High School, please don't judge).

Boot Camp- IN

A couple of weeks ago my friend/co-worker introduced me a small fitness studio boot camp.  And I LOVE it.  I am not one for gym membership.  I don't like the idea of others watching you on a machine, waiting for you to finish, or showing you up if they are stronger.  This boot camp is never over 20 people, all ages, both genders, and the trainers know you by face and name. Everyone is happy to be there and increase personal fitness and push personal limits.  I went this morning (at 6am) and despite the fact that I had 'one of those days', Boot camp made it better.

Friday Meetings: OUT

Let's be honest Friday is probably NOT the most productive work day.  Weekend plans are nearing, excitement is growing, the clock is ticking, and the list goes on.  So, really HOW productive is a Friday meeting really going to be?  Unless it's a meeting that includes discussing what the plans are for the weekend, it should probably happen on Thursday, or wait 'til Monday.  Leave us worker bee's alone.

A New Point of VIEW

I have reading glasses that I can wear all the time if I want to look smart

Sounds silly but sometimes glasses are all you need to perk up an outfit, a iwokeuptoolatetodoallmymakeup type morning, or just because your eyes are feeling a bit tired that day.

My co-worker was ordering glasses and she founds this awesome site www.warbyparker.com.

The frames have a super retro/old school vibe, but are so cute.

See some samples below:

BEST PART IS: You can order 5 pairs of frames and try them on FOR FREE before you buy them. You pick the five frames, Warby sends them, you try them, and send them back 5 days later.  I did this (with my co-worker) and we wore different ones around work for a week.

Then simply send them your prescription, and for only $95 bucks you have a fun and funky second pair of glasses.

I got the Huxleys in Sandalwood. I love 'em, and get compliments on them EVERY time I wear them!

If you wear glasses, I highly recommend these!

New for Me: Maxi

Haven't ever hopped on this maxi train.  I am so weary of the whole thing.

Will I look short? fat?
Will it all fall in the toilet when I go the bathroom? (that's a lot to gather up if you know what I mean)
Will I trip over it?

You get the picture.

But Target sold me on the one for $17.99 (buy here)

I am diggin' it.

Probably not an every day trend for me, but I will say I seriously underestimated the comfort level of these things.

All jewelry is forever21 (duh!!!) with the exception of the heart bracelet (below) which is Brighton, and given to me for college graduation.  I can't believe I have already been out for two years....how time flies.

What NEW (to you) fashion trend have you tried recently?

If you haven't get out there, it's more fun that one would think!!!!

Pretty In: Pink Perfume Only

Funny how smell can remind you certain times in you life. Here is recollection of my pink perfume collection...

Escada-Sentiment:
I bought my first perfume, in eighth grade.  When I was in my less than girly, tomboy phase.  I liked it because 1. it was perfume and it made me feel fancy 2. it smelled great 3. it was pink and girly

Since that day, I have expanded my perfume collection, but continue to buy pink perfumes ONLY.  Because it still makes me feel girly, which is something every girl needs in their life.

My collection has grown to a be a bit excessive, but every perfume has a different memory and time of my life associated with it.

Paris Hilton:
Bought this as a simple travel perfume for my trip to Cairo.  Forever more when I wear it, I think so the fourteen days I spent there over my winter break during college.

Versache- Crystal Bright:
A senior trip to Vegas warranted a new pink scent. So to Macys it was.  I browsed every pink perfume they had, right before the mall closed and setteled on the first I had smelled that evening.
Lancome- Miracle:
In eigth gradge, when I first discovered perfume my best friend told me this perfume reminded her of me.  It stuck with me, and I wanted a fresh smell for graduation.  So I got this one, a great spring and summer perfume.  It reminds me of college graduation and how long I had been wanting it: 8 years.
Vera Wang- Princess:
During my first (and current) big kid job, my co-worker and I got to talking about perfume. I was noting how I really wanted this perfume, because it fit all the requirements- delicious smell and pink color :)  She said she had it and never wore it, so she gave it to me.  First big kid job memories go with this smell.

Gucci- Guilty:
For my 22nd birthday my boss bought this for me. She too is really into perfumes, and we had previously discussed my love for pink perfumes. She got me this number, and it's my favorite.  The first time I wore it was on a hiking date with this guy I once thought was 'so hot and so cool', clearly I had not met my boyfriend yet.  Although it doesn't look pink, the perfume is.  Such a great gift.

Michael Kors: Very Hollywood
Smelled this in the small bottle at Target, and knew I could probably find it at Ross or Marshalls.  Sure enough, found it at Ross with my roommate this past fall, and love it.  Such a great addition the collection.  It has such a different smell too.  Note here: Ross, Marhsalls, and TJ Maxx are all great places to score perfumes.  You often can't smell them, so you usually have to know which one you want and keep your eye out for it ;)

Next on my list.  Hope it holds some good memories too!

BCBG Max Azria:

What perfume do you wear?
Any favorites from my list?

Sunday Snapshot: A Great Weekend

This weekend we went to Six Flags; we got season passes!!!  (they were only $10 more than a day pass, and it's only 45minutes from us, so we figured if we go one more time, it's totally worth it)  It was AWESOME!!!!

My boyfriend reminded me on the way that it was the only park in the United States that was also a Zoo, but when we got there I was still shocked to see the dolphins, tigers, giraffes, sharks, the butterfly garden, lions, etc.

If you have a Zoo near you, get out there and GO! It's one of those activities I rarely think to do, but always enjoy!

Hi Friends!!!

I enjoyed the butterfly garden most, just one LARGE room with hundreds of butterflies dancing around you.  They are so beautiful in a dainty, graceful, delicate way.  Wish I embodied those qualities- unfortunately none of those apply to me :/.

It was a day with lots of walking (I didn't forget remembered sunscreen :)), exhibit on looking, roller coaster screaming, and fair like food- read corn dog, beer, and fries.  I was sucked in by the Dip 'n Dots...remember those? Ice cream of the future.  They were just as delicious as I remember.

We got home napped, and decided to extend the fun with Avengers. See a great movie review (from my Bestie) here.  I'm not normally one for going to see a movie in theaters twice, but I would go again.  It was part comedy meets extreme action/awesome.

Here a taste of my weekend.

Hope you had a good one!!!!

What did you do this weekend?

Is tomorrow really Monday?

White Pants 2.0

So I have been loving my white jeans recently, remind me why I shied away from these before?

Went out to a dinner with some friends last night and had to do a quick change from work :( to play :)

Here is what I came up with:

Jeans: Express (buy here)
Shirt: Brass Plum (Nordstrom) from for-ev-er ago, I hardly wear it.
Jean Jacket: GAP from even for-ev-er-er ago (read circa 2002?)
Shoes: Steve Madden (Thanks Zappos, you rock!) Also 2 years ago
Bracelets: Black- Nordstrom Brass Plum, Bangles Forever 21 (similar here)

I guess I am really dating my wardrobe.  I swear not everything I own is that old, but I guess it was just throw back day.  Hope you all had a great Friday.  Our night ended less than seven hours ago so you know it was a success.

Friday Letters

Dear 6am Run,  I am sorry I cut you short this morning.  It was a rough boot camp on Wednesday afternoon AND it's Friday, so cut me a break.  I will be out there again tomorrow.  Thank you for being a great start to the day, in spite of everything.

Dear Target Sandals, I have tried to resist you three times now, but lets all be honest I knew you would get me one of these days.  Thank you for being so cute, and matching my outfit perfect.  I appreciate you making it easy for me to look cute.

Dear Future Puppy,  Not sure when I will get you.  But know it's sometime before my birthday (September) which makes me happy.  I hope that I am diligent enough to train you and that being part of my life makes you feel as loved as I am sure you will make me feel.

Dear Glen and Maddy,  It makes me sad (and happy that you are still close to family) that you live in San Diego.  I would love to share more real time (not phone time or facetime) with you guys.  I am excited for your lives together and am always happy you two are happy.  Thanks for being a great couple and a pleasure to be around.  You two are going to make my weekend happier than usual (and that's hard to do).

Dear Future Me,  There are too many things that I want to list here.  But one of the small things is I hope you get better at curling your hair (especially the back).  I hope you continue to enjoy life as much as you do now, because it's pretty darn awesome.

Thursday: IN or OUT

Stacy Keibler: IN

George has dated some question marks in the past- but Stacy, I think she is a keeper.  From what I have seen of her recently she is classy, timeless, and the perfect compliment to Clooney's seemingly age defying looks.  I love her in this dress, but lets be honest she looks good in anything.  Hope these two last.  And certainly hope we see more of her.

Tanning Mom: OUT

Let's be honest, who could really be in on this.  It is just terrible.  Puts anyone on Jersey Shore to shame.  Read the entire article here.  Enough said.

Dance Again- Jennifer Lopez featuring Pit Bull: IN

As much as I don't like Jennifer's new beau, I DO like her new song and video.  Watch here.  Damn she is bangin', Hope I can look as good as her when I am her age, but I guess a personal trainer, stylist, cook, and hair dresser would do that.  She is really getting out there though with her 'brand': American Idol, and her new show South Beach Tow.  Way to go J. Lo- you're rocking it- but please dump your boyfriend and hang out with your cute twins!!

Gmails 'New' Look: OUT

Okay so it's not so new anymore, but just when I get used to a website it changes.  Getting to my folders and gchat now is a lot more work.  Or so it seems.  Just like getting used to timeline, I guess I have to do it.  But when Nordstrom changed their website I almost went it to cardiac arrest.  Stop doing this to me people - If I can't keep up at my age, how am I going to when I am older???

Vegetable Chopper: IN

I am not a good dicer.  I can slice just fine, but dicing is a whole other issue.  My boyfriend and I are often easily influence and awed by infomercials.  So we went for it.  I love it.  Makes chopping things so much easier- It's not good for tomatoes (learned that one the hard way), but it great for garlic and onion.  Less crying and more success :) Gotta love that!!!  You can find it at Target, what can't you find there?

Style Improvement?

So...I haven't been part of this blogging world for very long- but since I have  joined I CAN NOT stop finding new style blogs that I like.  It's inspirational and fun to see how other people wear their wardrobes, and what combinations they come up with.

Here are some of the blogs I have been following since I've joined: Lilly's Style, Sequins and Stilettos, Mini Me Style, and Olive and an Arrow.  Check them all out when you get a chance.

Since my followings, I have come up with new creative ways to wear what I have.  So thank you all for your contributions to my style.  Here is my first attempt a 'new' outfit.  To me this 'new' outfit is just items I have owned for a while that have never been worn together.

I know it's not super stylish, but I am getting there. I think?

Pants: LOFT- 40% from Jan (currently on SUPER SALE here)
Shirt: Target $8 Long and Lean tank that every girl should own in 10 colors
Belt: Target Clearance $8 bucks
Short Sleeve Over Shirt: F21 (2 years ago!!!)
Shoes: Target (4 years ago....)

Happy Hump Wednesday!!!

Necklace :/ Redvelvet :)

Bought this necklace (similar here) weeks ago, and have yet to wear it.  Put it on today to dress up this simple 3/4 tee.  Not quite sure how I feel about it, but I gave it a try.  Thinking it might look better with black top, or maybe a collared number, but I really can't decide.

Help? How would one go about wearing this??

Here is one thing I felt really good about....

And I ate it the sandwich, 'Kaylin', way:

This is the easiest way to eat a cupcake- a perfect frosting to cake ratio!!!

Peep Toe Dilemma

I have had these shoes forever and never wear them, because I do not like the way peep toes look on my feet.

I do adore the bow on the toe, LOVE is in the details folks, and the color- black, a classic.

But here is the real kicker- I have owned them for FOUR years and worn them THREE times.  Do I keep them?

When I do wear them I like them, I just have trouble pairing them with a cute outfit.  Thinkin' they'd be cute with white capris and a red and black Polk-a-dot shirt?

If only my actual style was as good as the style I have in my head.

Thoughts on these pumps?

Weekend Drinks & New Local Eats

My boyfriend is always on the hunt for new restaurants to try, events to attend, or places to visit.  He picked up our local town magazine on Friday while at the store.  This magazine always has new locals eats and treats, plus fun events to check out, so it's right up his ally, if you will.

On Saturday we went to two of the new, magazine recommend restaurants, and both were great.  I focused mainly on the drinks and not the eats, but both were delicious.

First bar I tried this Belgian Beer, because I was just not in the mood for a normal brew.  It comes in multiple flavors, I chose rasberry.  Peach was the other to choose from.  The flavor is very strong (I enjoyed it by it's self), and the bartender recommend I mix it with a simple cider.  It was GREAT both ways- the cider just toned down the flavor a little.

I tried this cocktail during lunch.  It's the weekend, I am allowed, okay.  I was drawn to it for it's different components.  Absolute Peach, ginger beer, simple lime syrup, muddled basil, and blackberries.  Yup, I could drink this one again, and NOT feel guilty about it.

For dinner we tried another magazine recommended restaurant.  Yes, we did go to two new restaurants in one day.  I wanted to spread them out, but I was quickly reminded, 'why spend time eating s****y food, if there is great food waiting?'.  So to dinner we went.  This place had their name on the tops of their cocktails- Red Rabbits.

My boyfriend got a Jack Daniels, and it had the proper ice cube- one BIG cube, so the melting cube didn't water down the flavor.  Plus points on both accounts.  My cocktail also had egg whites in it, not sure what they do, but it was enjoyable none the less.

Lastly, we ordered these meatball appetizers (we got two orders, we each needed our own).  It was great, because each meatball was a different meat.  Beef (with marainara suace), Chicken (bacon wrapped- middle), and Lamb (on a mint paste).  We both liked the bacon wrapped chicken one the most.  Overall our new restaruant day was a success.

After all this, you bet I am going to be running double time this week.  But really if your area has a magazine, check it out.  It is so fun to get out and try new local eats.
