On Babies

The idea of growing a baby is intimidating.  Talk about the actual labor and delivery, and I'm out.  I'm so not cut out for this. Don't get me wrong, I want kids (yes plural) someday, emphasis on the someday.
Clearly she loves FaceTiming with me.

In blog world babies are everywhere, it's not until they (babies) start showing up on your Facebook news feed that you'll freak out (right Nadine?).  Mostly because you know that these babies weren't mistakes, they were intentional, planned, not a surprise, which is another indicator that nope, I'm not getting any younger.

While the idea of being a Mom still intimidates me, I wonder if the feelings on motherhood every really change? Isn't the whole premise of being a parent intimidating-- being responsible for another life, shaping a personality, leading by example, teaching morals, but mostly keeping them alive, healthy, and happy, this just doesn't sound easy.

And while there are some days that this seems near impossible for my little mind to process, it's happening all around me. In blogworld every season in baby season, but in real life baby season (for me) is right now.  If it were contagious, I'd have it.  My boyfriends cousin and sister are both due in the next 40 days, my niece is just barley 3 months (and the cutest thing ever), and Andrea is about ready to pop too (call if you need me).

The past two weekends were filled with family and baby showers; words like boppy, Sophie, and Bjorn don't even phase me even more...what is happening?  Insert internal freak out here.  The beauty of all these babies, is the excuse to browse the baby sections at Target, and how much I've been using my sewing machine.  This baby stuff can be so expensive, so I've been making the gifts myself, like this car seat cover I made for Andrea. How To coming soon.

So until I'm ready to be a Mom, I'll just borrow the babies I have around me (soon to be four of 'em)! I'll shop and sew for them, and come back home to my baby (Zoey that is), and drown her in hugs, and loves, and rubs, 'til I'm we're ready for a real one. It'll be a while, I promise.

Things that Make me a Grown Up

At twenty five, there are no more excuses.

I'm not really sure what I want to be when I grow up doesn't work anymore. Because I'm there.
And since when have I been graduated from college for four years, I still reference my college roommates as roommates, despite the fact that I've been living with my boyfriend (grown-up) for what's pushin' two years now (more on co-habitation to come).
But not much has changed since twenty four. I look pretty much the same, except the hair cut, and I can't visibly see more wrinkles so my anti wrinkle cream every night before bed regiment is hard at work. (I didn't wear that stuff in college), one point for adulthood.

I love my job, but can't say I'll be doing it forever. Could it be a career, absolutely. It counts as a win.

My car still needs gas and a wash in the worst way. It seems as if both those things are needed far to  often for a this girl to actually keep up.  But I do keep my tires freshly rotated and change my oil on the recommended schedule, so that definitely makes me an adult.

In elementary school my Mom used to pack my lunch, every day. I was pretty lucky, and she was the best, I always had a lots of fruit, and veggies, and the sandwich of my choice, packaged nicely in Ziploc baggies, an eleven year old can't be trusted with gladware.  Now I pack my lunch every day (insert creature of extreme habit here), but it's in glass Tupperware, which is a clear indication I have made it in life.

Wine is for adults, and as much as I thought slappin' the bag of Franzia in college counted in college, I was wrong. A glass (or two, or four) of chardonnay won't hurt anyone, and is a sign of maturity when consumed multiple times a week just for fun.

I see the doctor annually (no lady likes goin' in to the doctor more than once a year), and I get my teeth cleaned every six months; I've yet to have a cavity. And I even have my own health insurance (it's not big deal, but many people my age still pony up with their parents for this), so I am adding it to the list.  And the cherry on the cake, I have my very own own health flex spending account, which should add two points to my 'I'm for sure an adult board'.

We got a sectional, and while this is hardly something that would make the normal persons heart go pitter patter, every time I see it a small part of my inside smiles, and thinks, "Wow I am so grown up."

What points do I have working against me? Well.  I still drink too much (at times), shop at Forever25 Forever21, love Disney princesses, and live near my parents.  But I'd like to think that just adding to my character.

Labor Day Plans

I get to work all weekend long...
All The GIFs You'll Need To Express Your "Doctor Who" Feels
No but seriously, if you tuned in last week, I don't hate my job, so it shouldn't actually be that bad, minus the whole 30 hours in two day thing, but hey once a year I can come out of my grandma ways and make s*** happen.

What I will say is having breakfast, lunch, starbucks, and dinner at your office is when you have reached a new high, or low whichever way you see it.  But seeing as how I am a glass half full kind of gal, I'll say it's a new high and continue to try to convince myself.

I normally don't leave for work until hours after most people get to work, which was affirmed when a client commented, "You really are a bankers daughter, you keep bankers hours." Compliment or insult, again I'm not quite sure.  Part of me wanted to be insulted, sorry my job isn't like yours sir.  Anyways, when I got to work three short minutes after 8 this morning, it was a miracle....now if only I can get here at 6am two days in a row.  I think I can, I think I can,

So when all of you have awesome posts of enjoying the lasts remnants of summer, I'll be skipping that and fast forwarding to fall...if only California weather turned to fall in September like it does back East...we'll get there someday.

So when I go missing later this week, don't be alarmed, I'll be at my office.  But if you don't hear from me by next Tuesday send out the search party. I'll probably be in shorts, and a target tee shirt, looking for some sleep and some sanity.

Things That Are Only Exciting in Adult Life

Holy comfortable, our couch is here, and most all of me wants to cringe when I admit it was worth every single last penny, and it's been in our house for less than twenty four hours. I'll spare you pictures, because lets be honest, you've probably seen it already, and it's really not captivating, at all.

But isn't that what adult life becomes, moments that four years ago would have been as boring as cat using a litter box, somehow transform into monumental exciting moments in your life...gosh the grown up thing is really jammin' me up. And I digress.
What I am really excited about this weekend is laying on said couch and doing nothing.  My stint of a zillion busy weekends in a row that you are sick and tired of hearing about is over, and I am officially back to boring 'ole me. Amen to that.  Again we've come full circle to the adult life being really exciting thing.

This picture is from last weekend, do you see the two of us on the ends with our hands on our hips, yup you've guessed it these are my sorority sisters.  I haven't seen in three years (utterly depressing) but we took shots, danced, and just chatted for hours last weekend, and it was awesome. Some things never change.  I hope we can still do this when we're older, and not three more years from now.  Because while it many have taken me a solid week to recover from this weekend, it was totally awesome, and showed me I can still hold on to some small vestiges of my college life, which makes turning a quarter century next month not seem as terrible as it is.

Aside from the fact that my new ID came, and it no longer has the red bar on it the screams Age 21 in (you do the math), which makes a bouncer look at your ID longer.  When there is no red bar, it's clear you've been twenty one for far too many years, and likely wasted enough money at the bars to have paid for an ten day cruise through the Greek Isles. Not a carnival cruise either.

Anyways it's Friday. And for that I am thankful, as for this adult life, I'm still settling into it, on my couch, of course.

Signs I'm Gettin' Older...

The other day while organizing pictures on my computer, I came the the realization that I am getting old.  Hate me for sayin' it, but I am definitely not getting any younger.

I don't say old in a bad way, I mean old as in entering a different phase of life.  College seems so distant, so far behind me, and so ridiculous.  In my head I started to compare college Kaylin with current Kaylin and then I had a light bulb. Blog post.

So here are a few things that came to mind that make me VERY aware that I am getting older.

...you start browsing the wrinkle creams at Target (it's never too early to start right???)

...making dinner requires a recipe not a box or microwave

...'pre gaming' in a single glass of wine not an entire bottle of champagne...
cough, my 21st birthday, cough.
...you pick up a dress at F21 thinking it'd be a really cute shirt, when in college it'd be a dress
(the one in the picture above probably probably should have been a shirt...just sayin')

...your exciting Friday is making a new recipe and playing game with friends with a bottle of wine

...8am is considered 'sleeping in'

...tax returns are used on things like oil changes, back splashes, and dog food.

...sleeping less than 6 hours a night almost kills you

...your facebook news feed is used for engagements, weddings, and babies
(remember this post??)

...your facebook news feed hasn't had photos added in the past two weeks
(would that EVER have happened in college??)

...reading is fun, not required
(If you haven't read this book, go read it now)

...working out is to get fit, not to burn off shots and beer.

...doing your hair isn't just for 'formals', it's for work meeting, weddings and bachelorette parties
...Monday nights are spent at exercise class, not sorority meetings

...Summer vacation is a week (if you're using your vacation days), not months

...the kids that are in college now were born in the mid nineties....yikes.

...you realize that N'SYNC was cool a decade ago.
(but we all know Justin's still got it goin' on)

...wearing matching outfits with your friends is considered weird

Oh hey Nadine

...when the number of times you've been out 'til last call annually can be counted on one (maybe two) hands.

Any other things that make you feel old?
I'd Love to hear 'em.
